Description

One of the best examples of applying the principles of personalization in Polish education is the InstaLing platform. Its focus is on language learning, it is one of the most successful implementations of adaptive learning in Poland, used by hundreds of thousands of students and thousands of teachers.

Company: InstaLing S.A. (a Polish educational technology company)

Technology: Spaced Repetition System (SRS) supported by an AI algorithm.

Area of Education: Foreign language learning (English, German, Spanish, French) and Polish spelling, which are key components of both general and vocational education.

How AI-Powered Personalization Works

InstaLing's main function is to help students effectively master new vocabulary. The platform goes beyond simple flashcards by using an algorithm that personalizes the learning schedule for each student.

  1. Teacher-Assigned Words: A teacher enters a batch of words that the class needs to master during a given week.
  2. Daily Sessions: Students log in for short daily sessions (approx. 5-10 minutes) during which the system presents them with words to translate.
  3. Intelligent Repetition System: This is the core of the mechanism. The algorithm tracks every single answer from the student.
    • If a student answers correctly, the system schedules the review of that word further in the future.
    • If a student makes an error, the system schedules the review much sooner, often in the same or the very next session.
  4. Adaptive Learning Path: Thanks to this, each student spends most of their time on the words that are most difficult for them personally, rather than wasting time on words they already know well. This optimizes the memorization process.

Connection to Course Concepts InstaLing perfectly illustrates the key principles presented in the "Creating Personalized Learning with AI" course:

  • Personalized Learning Path (Module 2): Each student's daily session is unique and depends entirely on their previous performance. The path to mastering the same list of words is different for everyone.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making (Module 2): The system operates 100% based on student performance data. It provides instant feedback (correct/incorrect) and adapts future sessions based on that data.
  • The Teacher as an Analyst and Mentor (Module 1): The teacher no longer needs to manually check vocabulary notebooks. Instead, they receive detailed reports on student consistency and progress. They can easily identify which words are most difficult for the entire class and discuss them during lessons.
