Context & Overview
In Spain, FP Innova launched an initiative to modernize Basic Vocational Education (Formación Profesional Básica) by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced digital tools into the curriculum. With the support of HP’s "Z by HP" workstation series, this project aimed to expose VET students to the potential of AI-driven tools in everyday educational and work-related tasks. The project was introduced as part of a broader effort to bridge the digital gap in early-stage vocational training and enhance student engagement through innovative technologies.
Challenge Addressed
Basic VET programs often face the challenge of limited access to cutting-edge technologies and lack of familiarity with AI. Teachers and students frequently engage in repetitive manual tasks such as drafting documents, formatting content, or managing digital resources, which can reduce time for creative and critical learning. Moreover, there is a general lack of awareness among students about how AI can support or transform their future work environments.
Solution Implemented
The initiative provided participating schools with access to high-performance HP Z2 workstations and AI-friendly software tools. Teachers guided students in identifying tasks they frequently performed — such as creating visual materials, prototyping digital content, and organizing data — and then demonstrated how AI tools could assist or automate those processes. Through collaborative class projects and real-life applications, students gained first-hand experience with AI-supported workflows. The methodology emphasized exploration, creativity, and responsible AI use.
Impact & Results
Although no specific quantitative metrics have been published, feedback from schools involved has highlighted a notable increase in student motivation, digital literacy, and confidence in using new technologies. Students reported feeling more engaged when working on projects involving AI tools, while teachers noted improvements in the speed and quality of student work. The exposure to real-world applications of AI also improved students’ understanding of the digital skills needed in modern workplaces, particularly in creative, technical, and administrative tasks.
Key Lessons
Conclusion
The FP Innova initiative demonstrates that integrating AI tools into VET programs can yield meaningful improvements in student engagement, productivity, and digital competence. It offers a compelling model for how repetitive tasks in education can be mapped and optimized through AI, making it a relevant and valuable case study for the AIVET training framework.
